Mr Palmer's AQA GCSE Physics Notes

Energy

Work

  • W: the work done to an object in joules (J)

  • F: the force applied to the object in newtons (N)

  • d: the distance moved by the object in meters (m)

  • Note that if the object does not move, no work is done, no matter how big the force may be.

    Example: Mr Palmer finally snapped and murdered Mr Williams after catching him stealing the board pens out of Lab 1 for the last time. Mr Palmer now has to drag the body up to the school's pond to hide it in the shed. Mr Palmer exerts a force of 900N on the body for 35 meters. How much work did Mr Palmer do?

    Kinetic Energy

  • K: Kinetic energy measured in joules (J)

  • m: mass measured in kilograms (kg)

  • v: the speed of the object measured in meters per second

  • }
    Evil clown!

    Example: An evil clown throws a half kilogram pie at your face! The clown imparts 100J of kinetic energy into the pie, what is its speed?
